Although it is a rare event for me to laugh, or even smile, before my morning coffee, I couldn’t help but do so this morning!

As I slowly made my way down the stairs,(silently cursing my new pillow for a stiff neck)- the first sight of the day(as usual) was hubby, sitting in his rocker recliner.  That in itself, might be a hilarious sight for most(his hair always looks like Alfafa from Our Gang), but this morning he looked ‘extra’ special.

There he sat-with his the hood of his sweatshirt wrapped so tightly around his head that all I could see was his big average size nose and glasses.  On top of that-his entire body was covered with a blanket!!!!

“It’s freezing in here,” he whined.

“There’s that thing called a furnace,” I said, through fits of laughter.  “Remember?  We used it last winter to stay warm.”

A logical solution, right?  Well, not so for hubby.  “It’s not THAT cold,” he grumbled.

Well, it might not be cold enough to turn the furnace on, but it’s the perfect temperature to start decorating for Fall.  Which is exactly what I started doing last night.

The first thing I did was replace the summer wreath on the front door with this one I made last Fall.  (Sorry, I made the wreath before I started blogging, so I don’t have any ‘how to’ pics.) But it was pretty simple and inexpensive to make.  I already had the grapevine wreath and pine cones.  And I purchased the leaves and fruit on clearance at Michael’s. I used floral wire and hot glue to attach everything to the wreath-and VIOLA-instant FALL!!

The dining room is also getting a Fall face lift, starting with the table.  I purchased this chicken feeder for $5, last week at a flea market.  Of course, hubby thought I was insane when I told him what I was going to use it for!  “You can’t be serious,” he said.  “That filthy thing is not sitting our dining room table!”  Well, it wasn’t THAT bad, but never fear.  I am a known germ freak, so obviously I wasn’t putting this rusty feeder on the table without scrubbing and sterilizing it with bleach, and spraying two coats of clear coat, to seal it.  Once it dried, I filled it with all things fall-white pumpkins, leaves, acorns, grapevine balls, feathers and vanilla scented candles.  Most of these items I already had.  Except for the pumpkins………………….

Which I also purchased last weekend at a farmer’s market.  The larger ones were $2.00 each-and the smaller ones were 2 for a $1!!!!!!

I started adding a bit of Fall to the built ins…………….

And the front porch, but there is much more to be done!

Are you ready for Fall yet?

  1. Thank you, Katherine! I am totally obsessed with owls, and I love my new pitcher! I so appreciate you stopping by-and I will definitely be coming back to your amazing and inspiring party!

  2. Super cute! Makes me want to go out and pluck my pumpkins from the vines. I have lots of baby boos and a few orange. I thought I would wait until Oct. but now I'm thinking twice. lol! Love the owl pitcher and the feeder. I must be a slob because I use mine without bleaching it. It was on a runner if that makes a difference. Hee-hee! Your rustic bucket is fab as well! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
    hugs,
    Jann
